NUMO's priorities

Our Priorities

NUMO channels urban disruptions to build sustainable, just and joyful cities by working with a broad base of national, sub-national and local partners.

We are living in a time of accelerating change and disruption. Global urbanization continues to increase. Climate-related changes now affect nearly every person on earth, particularly poor and marginalized populations. Technological advances are impacting every aspect of life, from communication and automation to transportation and the nature of work. Disparities across indicators of human health, welfare and happiness are only growing by the year.

Leaders of cities and communities know that it has never been more important to focus on improving outcomes for their residents. These disruptions present the opportunity to improve outcomes, but only if leaders can anticipate, adapt and implement solutions that make life better for their communities.

Guided by the Shared Mobility Principles for Livable Cities, NUMO channels urban disruptions to build sustainable, just and joyful cities by working with a broad base of stakeholders at the national, sub-national and local levels to prioritize:

  1. Transportation decarbonization through improved access to safe, reliable and sustainable mobility systems that prioritize moving people, not cars; are built on public transit, shared and active mobility options; and reduce auto dependence.
  2. Better land-use practices and policies designed to transform our transportation systems and how we use them through solutions that center and are led by the communities they impact.
